On November 7th, Speaker of the State Duma, the lower house of Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin met Speaker of the Senate of Uzbekistan, the Oliy Majlis, Nigmatilla Yuldashev.

During the meeting, Speaker Volodin said that the Speakers have made significant developments in their relationship and thus will be able to make the two countries’ relationship more dynamic.

Volodin expressed hopes that the Uzbek delegation’s visit will give an impetus to the development of interparliamentary relations between the two countries. Voldin said that Russia will do everything to ensure that their strategic partnership continues to grow, so that Russia and Uzbekistan can look for new areas for cooperation beyond trade as well as for new solutions.

Volodin then invited Uzbekistan to participate in the PA CSTO (the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization) as an observer country of the Parliamentary Assembly, as parliaments of Afghanistan and Serbia have done. The PA CSTO is responsible for interparliamentary arrangements among members of the IPA CIS (the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States) who are also members of the CSTO.

Speaker of the Senate of Uzbekistan Oliy Majlis Nigmatilla Yuldashev thanked the State Duma Chairman for organizing the meeting. Nigmatilla Yuldashev replied that the Uzbek-Russian partnership has been developing in an unprecedented pace. Over the past year alone, more than eighty mutual visits of high-delegations took place, including the recent visit of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to Uzbekistan.

In response, Speaker Volodin said that the development of parliamentary relations is the development of relations between the two nations, and again stressed the necessity to further develop the bilateral relations.
