On June 17, Kyrgyzstan’s parliament voted on a new Prime Minister. Two days after his predecessor Muhammedkalyi Abylgaziev resigned, Kubatbek Boronov was appointed by decree of Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

 

During the session on June 17, 105 out of 116 attended Members voted in favor of Boronov, electing him as the 31st Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan. The Members also approved the program, structure, and composition of the new government.

 

The 56-year-old Prime Minister is a former Vice Prime Minister of the country. He also served as the head of Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergencies from 2011 to 2018. Boronov’s prior task as the new Prime Minister is to work on curbing the COVID-19 pandemic within the country, reviving the economic damaged by the pandemic, and preparing for the upcoming October 4 parliamentary election.
