SUBJECT Speaker of the upper house of Berlarusian parliament meets the president of the French Senate in Paris

Chairman of the Council of the Republic, the upper house of Belarus’ bicameral parliament, Mikhail Myasnikovich met President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher on a working visit to France on November 11th. The two leaders discussed a wide range of topics, including regional security.

 

Speaker Mikhail Myasnikovich and Senate President Gerard Larcher stressed strengthening economic ties through means such as attracting French investment in economic projects of Belarus. The parties also discussed promoting cooperation with international organizations such as the Council of Europe.

 

The Belarusian Speaker and the French Senate President praised the parliamentarian friendship groups established this year.

 

On the same day, Speaker Myasnikovich took part in a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe war monument. The ceremony, marking the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Armistice was followed by official receptions for foreign delegations on behalf of French President Emmanuel Macron.

 

As a part of the same ceremony, the French capital hosted the heads of state, government, parliament, representatives of around 80 countries as well as the heads of major international organizations.

 

The participants commemorated the losses resulted from the World War I and emphasized the necessity of uniting efforts to ensure global security.
