Observing the 70th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic ties, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev co-chaired the 24th regular meeting between Chinese and Russian heads of government in St. Petersburg, Russia, on September 17, 2019.

The meeting was mainly about improving cooperation between two parties, as pragmatic efforts and strategic coordination can boost political mutual trust and economic breakthroughs. Oil refining, chemical engineering, finance, and agriculture are some of the areas that the two sides mentioned during the talk about enhancing collaboration in the energy and business sectors.

According to Premier Li, China is ready to increase its efforts in cooperating with the Eurasian Economic Union, as developments in new areas such as e-commerce and sci-tech innovation are gaining momentum. He also noted that the two countries aim to double the bilateral trade volume. As uncertainty is growing at a global level, stable diplomatic relations can benefit not only the engaged parties but also the world, said Li.

Stressing that the China-Russia partnership is entering a new era with notable progress, Prime Minister Medvedev stated that both countries have been advocating multilateralism and international rules while opposing unilateral sanctions. In addition, the Prime Minister expressed Russia’s hope to witness an increase in people-to-people exchanges in universities and local governments.

Li and Medvedev signed several agreements, including a joint communique, in areas such as trade, nuclear energy, science and technology, and the digital economy. The two sides also shared their views on common interests regarding international and regional matters.
