SUBJECT 2. Joint Statements of the previous MSEAPs

The first Meeting of Speakers of Eurasia Countries’ Parliaments was held 18 to 20 of April, 2016 in Moscow, Russia, under the theme “Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation for Joint Prosperity of Eurasian Countries in the 21st Century”.

 

Concluding the first MSEAP, the final statement was adopted by the Speakers of participating countries. In the statement, the participants stressed their shared vision of the Eurasian region as a prospective space for mutually beneficial partnership.

 

The statement emphasized the importance of Eurasian region and joint cooperation efforts against international terrorism, recognizing the necessity of building partnership among all Eurasian region countries and parliaments in all fields including economy, society, human rights, culture and environment.

 

The Speaker of Russian State Duma Sergey Naryshkin proposed ROK to host the second MSEAP in Seoul, and the participating countries supported such proposal. Upon the agreement, Dr Chung Ui-hwa, the Speaker of the ROK Parliament announced the second MSEAP to take place in Seoul.

 

In the second MSEAP held in Seoul, Republic of Korea from 26 to 28 of June, 2017, the Seoul Statement was adopted by the leaders of the parliaments of the participating countries.

 

Under the theme “Promotion of Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation for Common Prosperity in the Eurasian Region,” the second MSEAP was participated by greater number of countries of the world.

 

By adopting the Seoul statement, the participants agreed to share the parliaments’ efforts for regional cooperation and common prosperity of the Eurasian region in the third MSEAP. Furthermore, the statement established the MSEAP Cyber Secretariat to be managed by the Republic of Korea, thereby systemizing and building foundation for inter-parliamentary cooperation.

 

As the participants successfully reached consensus and adopted joint statements in the past MSEAPs, the outlook for the third MSEAP to result in positive outcomes is bright.
