In the midst of COVID-19 crisis inter-parliamentary organizations continue to prepare future meetings via online.
The Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is to be held next August from 19 to 21 in Vienna. On May 13, the Preparatory Committee for the Conference held its fourth meeting online. Parliamentarians from over 15 countries representing their geopolitical groups participated in the conference. Gabriela Cuevas Barron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Martin Chungong, the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, also took part in the meeting.
During the meeting, the participants discussed many global issues such as climate change, refugees, and demographic changes. The development of COVID-19 was also a part of the discussion.
Meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly via video-conference is also discussed to be held in June. Regarding the meeting, Viacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, had a discussion with Ararat Mirzoyan, President of the National Assembly of Armenia, and Nurlan Nigmatulin, Chairman of the Mazhili of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, via telephone. The Speakers discussed the situation regarding COVID-19 and the holding of the meeting in June. Volodin said that the possibility of holding an online meeting of the CSTO PA Council would be discussed with all Chairmen of the parliaments of the Parliamentary Assembly.
