As COVID-19 crisis shows a downward trend of spreading, parliaments are reconvening parliamentary sessions to implement measures to recover from damages done by the pandemic.

The Kuwaiti National Assembly will resume regular sessions starting from June 16. After the meeting of the Parliament’s Bureau, where the Members decided to resume sessions, Kuwaiti Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim announced that the parliament will come together to discuss government measures against COVID-19. He said that Chairmen of the Committees will hold meetings starting this week to finalize reports for the next session. He also added that a report of the government’s preparation and measures against COVID-19 will be the first agenda of their first session.

Moreover, India is also preparing to reopen parliamentary sessions. Rajya Sabha (upper house) Chairman Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha (lower house) Speaker Om Birla had a meeting to discuss opening the monsoon session of the parliaments. In India, monsoon session usually begins in the last week of July and is held until the end of August. They hoped to hold the sessions, in accordance with the COVID-induced norms like social distancing. The Speakers also mentioned the need to prepare for a virtual parliament, considering that the battle against the virus could be long-term, thereby equipping itself with necessary technology is essential. Additionally, they considered holding Lok Sabha sessions in the Central Hall and Rajya Sabha sessions in the Chamber Hall of the parliament.
