On June 27, 2017, the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation jointly hosted the second Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments (MSEAP) in Seoul, Korea.

The meeting produced a joint statement among the parliamentary leaders pledging to usher in an era of coexistence and prosperity through continuous exchange and close cooperation among Eurasian countries.

The official meeting was brough to a closure with a declaration from the Speakers of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Chung Sye-Kyun, and of the Russian State Duma, H.E. Vyacheslav Volodin, respectively.

In his closing address, Speaker Chung said, "I know it would be too ambitious for us to try and put all our aspirations for the joint prosperity of the Eurasian continent into this short, but no less important, statement."

"Nevertheless, the Seoul Statement will provide a vital blueprint in shaping future inter-parliamentary cooperation in Eurasia," he added, "The Korean National Assembly will cooperate with parliaments represented here today and work towards the advancement and institutionalization of MSEAP."

The joint statement mainly reconfirms and stresses the need for inter-parliamentary cooperation for the development and prosperity of Eurasia, discussions and information sharing of parliamentary actions of each country for cooperation in the region, and for joint efforts not only in economic cooperation and logistics, resources and energy, but also in responding to international terrorism and climate change.
