The deputy speaker will be Tsitsi Gezi who won the deputy speaker elections with 174 votes against the MDC Alliance opponent Murisi Zwizwai with 79 votes.

Speaker Mudenda will serve as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Zimbabwe.

In his address after swearing in, Mudenda congratulated the MPs for getting elected. He said, “it was your election that created this college that created myself and my deputy to the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.”

Jacob Mudenda, Zimbabwean politician, a lawyer and a former English teacher, has been serving as the Speaker of the House of Assembly since 2013.

Mudenda earned B.A. in Education and English from University of South Africa, then Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree from University of Zimbabwe (UZ), as well as Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law from UZ.

Mudenda’s successful political career has been often linked with his relationship with Robert Mugabe, the former Prime Minister and President of Zimbabwe.
