On Monday, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Moon Hee-sang met Speaker Amal Abdullah Juma Al Qubaisi of the UAE Federal National Council in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Speaker Moon said he is very pleased to meet Speaker Amal Al Qubaisi who is the first female member of the Federal National Council and the first female FNC speaker. “I hope the memorandum of understanding signed today serves as the foundation for active communication and stronger cooperation between the two parliaments ahead,” Speaker Moon added.
In response, Speaker Al Qubaisi said that “the bilateral relations is growing stronger based on trust and respect since President Moon Jae-in’s official visit to the UAE in March”. The UAE speaker added that “the ROK-UAE interparliamentary MOU will contribute to further development of the bilateral relations further and bring positive prospects”.
Speaker Al Qubaisi then congratulated improved relations of the two Koreas’ through political means including the inter-Korean summits. The speaker said that she highly values political achievements of South Korea and hoped for active exchanges in economy, energy, technology, culture, tourism, medical and health sectors.
In addition, the ROK speaker said that the Barakah nuclear power plant symbolizes the bilateral cooperation and is particularly significant as ROK’s first nuclear power plant to be exported.
The speakers signed the ROK-UAE interparliamentary MOU to strengthen comprehensive and practical cooperation relations. The MOU on bilateral parliamentary cooperation contains development of frameworks for cooperation, exchange of opinions on common issues, promoting communication through mutual visits and interparliamentary activities between the two countries’ speakers.
