On 14 February, a delegation led by Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Ara Babloyan, came together with Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, as part of a working visit to the Russian Federation.

The Armenian parliamentary delegation included MPs Artashes Geghamyan, Hermine Naghdalyan and the National Assembly Chief of Staff-Secretary General Ara Saghatelyan. Armenian Ambassador to Russia, Vardan Toghayan also took part in the meeting.

Speaker Babloyan expressed his gratitude to the Russian officials for their warm hospitality, expecting the visit will provide a new impetus to the development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.

Touching upon the proposal of Russia to hold the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countreis’ Parliaments (MSEAP), Babloyan noted that this platform has proved its vitality creating an opportunity of dialogue without obstacles. He reaffirmed the readiness of the Armenian side to host the conference in 2020.

Speaking of inter-parliamentary cooperation on the international stage, both parties highlighted the necessity for a more coordinated basis of mutual support, especially mutually beneficial relations between European and Asian legislatures.

Ara Babloyan informed that the Armenian parliamentarians will actively take part in the observation missions in the upcoming presidential election in Moscow within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly (CSTO PA).

Noting that the traditional partnership relations serve as a firm basis for further cooperation, the State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that the constructive dialogue between the two countries was at an all-time high.

Under the purview of MSEAP among other bodies of inter-parliamentary diplomacy, cooperation among the world’s legislators—and the cultural and educational ties among nation-states—seem to be expanding.
