On Thursday, the Slovenian Parliament confirmed the new centre-left minority government formed by Prime Minister Marjan Sarec.

Prime Minister Sarec’s minority government, formed after an inconclusive general election in June, is the country’s first minority government.

The cabinet was voted in with the support of forty-five deputies of the 90-seat parliament, while 34 voted against and 11 abstained or were absent.

Before the parliament voted, Prime Minister said the government will focus on improving the national health system and guaranteeing a stable economic environment in Slovenia.

Sarec also said that “now it is time to start working… and deliver results”.

Prime Minister Sarec was a comedian and an actor, and formerly served as a provincial mayor.

Sarec formed the minority government after the centre-right Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) failed to make a coalition after winning most votes in the June election.

Sarec’s cabinet consists of his List of Marjan Sarec (LMS) party and four other centre-left parties, the Social Democrats, the Party of the Modern Centre, the pensioners’ party Desus and the Party of Alenka Bratusek.

Outgoing premier of Slovenia Miro Cerar will serve as the new foreign minister, replacing Karl Erjavec who became the defence minister.
