Fifth Asia Regional Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) will be held in Islamabad from July 29-August 2, 2019.
This year’s theme is ‘Envisioning Parliamentary Paths toward a Diverse and Developed South Asia’. Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser will chair the conference.
It will be attended by Speaker of Ugandan Parliament and incumbent President, Member of British Parliament Lord Purvis of Tweed Jeremy Purvis, Member of Malaysian Parliament Dr. Noraini Binti Ahmad, Chairperson of CPA Executive Committee Emilia Lifaka, Secretary General of CPA Akbar Khan, Speaker of Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly Fida Muhammad Nashad, Speaker of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir and other national and international personalities of prominence, members of parliament and observers.
In his message to the conference participants, Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Asad Qaiser said the aim of the conference is to bring parliaments of various countries together for regional prosperity. He said Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is an effort to promote parliamentary diplomacy and democratic governance.
The CPA Asia region comprises the federal parliaments of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as well as the four Provincial Assemblies of Pakistan.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) was established in 1911 and has over 17,000 members in 185 parliaments. The CPA is an international community of Commonwealth Parliaments and Legislatures working together to deepen the Commonwealth’s commitment to the highest standards of democratic governance. CPA serves as the voice of parliamentary democracy, right of parliaments and parliamentarians to play a more active role in the development of their countries across the Commonwealth.
