On July 30, 2019, Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani met with visiting head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China Song Tao in Tehran. Song led a delegation to visit Iran from July 28 to 30 at the invitation of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council.
Speaker Larijani said that Iran has developed a 25-year plan to expand its mutual ties with China. According to the Speaker, the idea to develop a plan to expand mutual ties between Iran and China was underlined by Chinese President Xi Jinping just recently. He noted that while a plan has been established, “to make [the plan] into a joint strategy, we need to sit for talks with the Chinese side.” The Parliament speaker then stressed that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian government are keen on expanding relations with China as well, stating that the Iranian Parliament also supports this approach.
Chinese Head of the International Liaison Department Song Tao said that China has always viewed its relations with Iran from a strategic and long-term perspective. China is willing to enhance political mutual trust and strategic communications between the two countries, promote practical cooperation and the development of bilateral relations, said Song.
On the issue of the Iran nuclear deal, China will firmly support the deal, uphold multilateralism, and push to build a community with a shared future for humankind, Song added.
During his three-day visit, Song held a series of meetings with Iranian senior officials, including Chairman of Expediency Discernment Council Sadeq Larijani, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari and Secretary-Genearl of Iran’s Islamic Coalition Party Asadollah Badamchian.
