Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), held talks with Egypt's Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal in Beijing on Tuesday, June 18th.

Chinese Speaker Li said that China has always viewed and promoted the China-Egypt ties from a long-term perspective and worked together with Egypt to support each other on core issues. He stressed that China stands ready to intensify cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and to further consolidate an open, inclusive, transparent, non-discriminatory and rules-based multilateral trading system.

Speaker Li called the parliaments of the two countries to enhance unity and cooperation to contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. He also called on the two parliaments to strengthen legislative exchanges, share experiences on legislation, supervision and state governance to inject new impetus into bilateral ties.

Egypt’s Speaker Ali said that the Belt and Road Initiative will bring huge opportunities for bilateral cooperation, and that Egypt will as always firmly support China on issues of China’s major concerns, including fighting terrorism and coordination on international affairs, adding that Egypt’s parliament looks forward to closer cooperation with the National People’s Congress.

According to the Kuwait News Agency, Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will visit Iraq on Wednesday, June 19th. He will be discussing bilateral ties and recent regional and international developments.

“The visit comes at a time when the region is experiencing critical circumstances and continuing escalation. This should reflect the significance of coordination with the Iraqi side to ease regional tension,” said Khaled Al-Jarallah, Kuwait’s deputy foreign minister. He is referring to the attacks near the strategic Strait of Hormuz shipping lane, which Washington has blamed on Tehran.

This is the second visit for the Emir to Iraq, with the first being in March 2012 when he led a Kuwaiti delegation to the Arab summit in Baghdad.
