Vuong Dinh Hue, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister, visited the Korea Financial Investment Association (KOFIA) to discuss the investment cooperation and partnership South Korea. There were 30 high-ranking government officials and corporate tycoons of Vietnam who participated in the event as well.

KOFIA is a non-profit, self-regulatory organization (SRO) in South Korea. Its goals are to ensure fair business practices among members, fair trading of securities and investor protection and the overall development of South Korea’s capital market and financial investment services industry.

Coming into the meeting, Vietnam developed their plan to develop the stock market and the government policies to attract foreign investment. In return, leaders of Korea’s securities firms shared their global investment strategies as well as their personal interests in the capital market of Vietnam.

“We sensed the Vietnamese government’s high expectation about Korea’s capital market through the event with Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue,” KOFIA Chairman Kwon Yong-won said. ‘KOFIA will sign an MOU with the State Securities Commission of Vietnam in November, accelerating the two countries’ capital cooperation,” he added.

According to the International Monetary Fund, since 2014, Vietnam has maintained its economic growth of over 6 percent and is high likely to mark 7 percent this year.

In addition to the partnership event, Hue also met with Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon on Wednesday June 19th.

Because Vietnam is where all of Hyosung’s core products are being produced, Cho asked for the Vietnamese government’s support for Hyosung’s polypropylene plant in the southeast region of Ba Ria Vung Tau and the tire cord plant in Quang Nam province in central Vietnam.

Cho said that he had also asked that both Korea and Vietnam should “continue the good relationship and bolster collaborations,” to which hue responded positively.

Slovakia’s new president, Zuzana Caputova, made her first official visit to the Czech Republic, visiting the grave of Vaclav Havel, the former dissident who was the first post-communist leader of the former Czechoslovakia.

To Caputova, Havel is her role model and a statement of her own self-avowed values of tolerance and decency. “I consider Vaclav Havel to be one of the most inspiring political leaders, specifically in that authenticity that he exuded,” she said. Havel has led protests that resulted in the fall of the communist regime in the 1989 Velvet Revolution.

Michael ?antovský, the director of the Vaclav Havel library and the author of his biography, said that Caputova was an apt successor. “Her visit is symbolic because Havel had always expressed hope that his successor might be a woman. I believe she is a worthy representative of his values,” he said.

After the meeting that happened on Wednesday, June 19th, Caputova said that her visit of the Czech Republic was not simply a matter of tradition but a matter of real interest in a country where she had lots of friends. She also stated that the Czech-Slovak cooperation should continue within the V4 group, which is the political and cultural alliance of Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, as long as the members respect the established rules of law.

Furthermore, the two presidents discussed bilateral relations, agreeing to open a Czech House in Bratislava by the end of this year. In addition to meeting Zeman, Caputova also met with the Speaker of the Czech Senate Jarosalv Kubera and Speaker of the Czech Parliament Radek Vondrá?ek.

It has been said that the Slovak president also invited Zeman to visit Slovakia.
