On Thursday, June 27th, Slovakia’s three highest constitutional officials – President Zuzana Caputova, Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko and Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini – swore allegiance to the Common Declaration of Constitutional Officials towards the Priorities of Slovakia’s Membership in the EU and the NATO at the Bratislava Castle.

“We do it to build a basis for the cooperation and coordination of the three highest constitutional officials when conducting the responsible and unified foreign policy of the Slovak Republic and to confirm the directing of foreign policy,” the constitutional officials wrote in their statement. Simply stated, its aim is to view Slovakia as a stable and responsible partner abroad.

The first declaration of this kind was signed in October 2017 by the former president of Slovakia Andrej Kiska, former Prime Minister Robert Fico and Andrej Danko.

They agreed to care about the clear and responsible communication of the pro-European and pro-Atlantic orientation of Slovakia, both abroad and at home.

The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to vote on a new candidate for the Minister of Education after candidate Safana Hamdani failed to gain enough votes in parliament for her appointment on Monday. Even though Hamdani was put forward by Iraqi Sunni leader Khamis Khanjar, she was still decided against the appointment.

The new candidate for the role is Zahida Abdulla, the Dean of the Girls’ Education College in Mosul, according to an official correspondence sent by the Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi to the parliament.

"The name of the education ministry candidate has been submitted to the parliament and will be put on today's agenda for a vote," Bashir Haddad, deputy speaker of the parliament, stated.

Abdualla, a Mosul native, received her PhD in Arabic Language and Literature at Mosul University.

Though the post had been filled last year when newly-elected Abdul-Mahdi submitted his cabinet, it was quickly left vacant when Shima Al-Hayali, also a Mosul academic, resigned in protest of claims by some Iraqi leaders that her brother was a member of Islamic State (ISIS).

"I am an Iraqi woman, first of all, independent, and I have never worked with any political party or bloc. I was nominated for the Iraqi education ministry as an academic from the University of Mosul," Al-Hayali said in a statement at the time.

The completion of his cabinet will likely take the heat off of Abdul-Mahdi following weeks of pressure from major Shiite party blocs, Iraq’s highest religious authority Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, and firebrand cleric and kingmaker Muqtada al-Sadr.

Co-organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique, the Vietnam-Mozambique Trade, Investment and Tourism Promotion Forum took place in Maputo, Mozambique on Wednesday, June 26th.

Over 100 representatives of Vietnamese and Mozambican businesses were gathered together in order to seek stronger links in trade, investment and tourism between the two nations.

Vietnamese Ambassador in Mozambique, Le Huy Hoang, said, “Our Vietnamese government is committed to continue our support of the two countries’ businesses to reinforce partnership and capitalize on our potential and advantages.”

Meanwhile, Le Hong Thang, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, introduced advantages of the Vietnamese capital city, including transport infrastructure and human resources. He also highlighted the municipal authorities’ resolve to assist foreign enterprises to engage in economic, investment and trade cooperation.

Mozambican Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Julio Joao Pio reviewed the recent strides in bilateral relations, including the fruitful investment of Movitel – a joint venture worth over $600 million of the Vietnamese military-run telecom group Viettel in the African nation.

He called on the two nations to bolster economic, trade and investment ties, encouraging Vietnamese firms to invest in potential fields in his country like agriculture, farm produce processing and mining.

For his part, Director of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arlindo Duarte said he hopes to continue serving as a bridge helping businesses to boost substantive cooperation for the sake of both countries.

At the forum, Ambassador Hoang and Hanoi companies presented economic, trade, investment and tourism potential of Vietnam in general and the city in particular, along with policies supporting bilateral trade and investment activities.

They also introduced Vietnamese goods that are in demand in Mozambique like agricultural products, handicrafts, apparel, wood products and building materials. Famous cultural and historical sites of Vietnam were also promoted to attract more visitors from Mozambique and neighboring countries.
