Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament Karu Jayasuriya will visit Republic of Korea from August 27th to 30th.

On Tuesday the 28th, Speaker Jayasuriya visited National Assembly of ROK and met with Korea’s Speaker of Parliament Moon Hee-sang. During the visit, Moon asked Jayasuriya “to look forward to and help the continued exchanges between North and South Korea to bring peace to the world and to Asia”.

According to the National Assembly, Speaker Moon Hee-sang made this comment after saying “Sri Lanka has sent a welcoming message regarding the inter-Korean summits and the Panmunjom Declaration [with DPRK]”.

“Last year’s visit from President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena to Korea for the 40th anniversary of the two countries’ established diplomatic relationship marked a swift development for the relationship between Sri Lanka and ROK” said Speaker Moon. “I’ve been told that Speaker Jayasuriya, before entering politics, had experiences with Korea as an entrepreneur. We hope our Korean businessmen in Sri Lanka receive special attention and support.”

Speaker Jayasuriya responded by saying that “we will put efforts so that Korean investors would come to Sri Lanka,” “we hope that the parliamentary delegation including Speaker Moon visit Sri Lanka for the two countries’ closer relationship.”

A day earlier on the 27th, Speaker Jayasuriya visited Prime Minister of Korea Lee Nak-yeon. In the meeting, Karu Jayasuriya congratulated Moon Jae-in administration for “successful management of the country as well as the two inter-Korean summits and the Panmunjom Declaration with DPRK” and offered invitations for President Moon and Prime Minister Lee to visit Sri Lanka.
