SUBJECT Turkish Parliament Speaker meets the Parliament Speaker of Azerbaijan

Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Binali Yıldırım will visit Azerbaijan this week and meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Novruz Memmedov as well as the Parliament Speaker of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov.

 

On August 29th, Turkish Parliament Speaker Binali Yıldırım noted the importance of developing further cultural ties between Turkey and Azerbaijan.

 

He made the remarks during a meeting with the Azerbaijan Speaker of Parliament Ogtay Sabir oghlu Asadov, an Azerbaijani politician who has served as the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan since 2005.

 

Turky Sepaker Binali Yıldırım has been announced the parliament speaker this July 7th, succeeding Ismali Kahraman.

 

Yildrim said that discussions on the development of bilateral and regional cooperation, and interparliamentary relations between the two countries will take place during the visit.

 

He praised the relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan, saying that effective cooperation has been established in various spheres.

 

Yildrim emphasized the importance of expanding the two countries’ cultural ties, which are already amicable and fraternal.

 

Azerbaijan Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov responded that the relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan is developing in all spheres.

 

Asadov applauded that the political relationship has reached a high level, and added that visits taken by the heads of state are important in developing such relations.

 

Azerbaijan Speaker Asadov added that the trade turnover between the two countries has reached $2.6 billion in the year 2017.

 

Asadov also noted that the countries’ joint regional projects will help improve the welfare of both countries. He mentioned that 59 Azerbaijani MPs are members of the Turkey-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group as an indication of how the relationship between the two countries’ parliaments has expanded.
