Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey met with President Igor Dodon of Moldova, who was on an official visit to Turkey at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on December 30, 2019, in Ankara.
During the discussion, Speaker Sentop called the meeting as “a sign of … placing importance on relations between the two countries,” while President Dodon showed appreciation for Moldovan-Turkish political dialogue and cooperation at the parliamentary and state level.
After the bilateral meeting, President Dodon and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey co-chaired the 1st Meeting of the Turkey-Moldova High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The meeting was aimed to review current bilateral relations between Turkey and Moldova and discuss ways to strengthen the bilateral cooperation. Major topics of the talks include cultural and economic ties, Gagauzia community, and security.
In parallel, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay and Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Kiku held a meeting. The meeting centered on political and economic relations, especially bilateral trade and investment, between the two countries.
