On December 22, 2019, Uzbekistan held parliamentary elections for the first time since President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took office in 2016. Preliminary results of the elections were announced by Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) the next day, with Liberal Democratic Party winning the greatest number of seats in Parliament.

Out of 150 seats in the Legislative Chamber, the lower house of Parliament, 128 were taken.  According to Central Election Commission Chairman Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, the remaining 22 seats will be contested in the second round of voting on January 5, 2020. This was due to the fact that constituencies in those seats did not win the required number of votes in the first round.

The five parties that participated in the recent parliamentary elections were Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP), National Revival Democratic Party (Milliy Tiklanish), Justice Social Democratic Party (Adolat), People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU), and Ecological Party of Uzbekistan. Respectively, the parties won 43, 35, 21, 18, and 11 votes.

As the Electoral Code of Uzbekistan mandates, the first session of the new Legislative Chamber is expected to be held in two months after the elections.
