Chairman of Tajikistan’s Majlisi Namoyandagon, the lower chamber of parliament, Shukurjon Zuhurov met with Nuriddinjon Ismailov, the chairman of the Uzbekistan legislative chamber, the lower house of parliament.

The Uzbek parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Nuriddinjon Ismailov arrived in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan, Monday evening for an official visit.

The two heads of parliaments discussed issues related to inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Tajikistan Parliament Speaker Shukurjon Zuhurov expressed hope that inter-parliamentary diplomacy would promote further development in economic, humanitarian and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The Tajik chairman noted that the two countries had signed more than 180 agreements and contracts amounting to 730 million U.S. dollars over the past year.

In response, Uzbek Parliament Speaker Nuriddinjon Ismailov said that the parliamentarians could contribute to expanding cooperation between Dushanbe and Tashkent, respectively Tajik and Uzbek capital cities.

The two-day official visit, initiated by the leaders of the two countries, is the first ever visit of Uzbek parliamentary delegation to Tajikistan.

The Uzbek MPs also had a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The parliamentary delegation afterwards visited the Nurek hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and TALCO Cable plant, as well as the Kokhi Navrouz State Complex located in Dushanbe.
