On October 14th, the Luxembourgish Parliamentary Elections took place. According to the official portal of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, 256,698 voters were summoned to elect the new parliament on Sunday.
In the 2018 parliamentary elections, ten political parties participated, and 547 candidates ran for election, of which 46 percent were women and 54 percent were men.
The Greens won extra three seats in the 60-seat parliament, the Pirate Party entered the parliament for the first time with two seats. The Christian Social People’s (CSV), however, while remaining the largest party with 28.3 percent of the total vote, is down two seats with twenty-one seats.
The Democratic Party (DP) won twelve seats, one less than in 2013, and the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) lost three seats with a total of ten seats. The ADR has four seats, and Déi Lénk won two seats.
Prime Minister Xavier Bettel’s liberal-led coalition secured enough votes to stay in power. Bettel’s Democratic Party and its allies, a coalition of the Greens and the LSAP, maintained majority by winning 31 out of 60 seats.
The Chambre des députés, the Luxembourgish parliament will take shape according to the election results.
