On February 13, 2020, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan embarked on a two-day official visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan for the Sixth Session of the Turkey-Pakistan High Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Upon arrival, Pakistani President Arif Alvi on Thursday hosted a reception in honor of his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the capital Islamabad. Both leaders stressed the importance of historic bilateral relationship between Turkey and Pakistan in various areas, including politics, economy, culture, defense and people-to-people contacts. The Turkish president also spoke highly of Pakistan's efforts in the war on terrorism and said the country was the most affected by this menace. They mentioned the importance of keeping peace, regionally and internationally, especially in the era of islamophobia being an inevitable problem.

At the beginning of a joint parliamentary session on February 14, 2020, Speaker Asad Qaiser welcomed the Turkish president and said, “He is a true friend of Pakistan and an important leader of the Islamic world.” In return, Erdogan addressed the joint session of the parliament and thanked the Pakistani people and leadership over the warm welcome he was accorded upon arrival. He also mentioned his gratitude toward Pakistani nation for continuously supporting Turkey in various aspects. "Today, Pakistan and Turkey's relations are admirable for others... During difficult times, Pakistan has supported Turkey," Erdogan said. Parliamentarians from all political parties attended the joint session and they all praised Erdogan’s touching speech.

Then, Erdogan and Khan co-chaired the Sixth Session of the Turkey-Pakistan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council under the theme “Towards an even-closer strategic partnership,” attended by senior politicians and cabinet members from both sides. At the end of the meeting, a Joint Declaration was signed, reassuring cooperation on various sectors.

Also, together with Khan, Erdogan address the Pakistan-Turkey Business and Investment Forum.  The two sides agreed that to fully realize their immense potential, Turkey and Pakistan should increase their commercial and economic ties to the level of their political relations. Turkey and Pakistan signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs), aimed at boosting the existing bilateral trade, economic engagement, and cultural and communication ties.
