Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments (MSEAP) is an annual meeting of parliamentarians who strive to propose solutions for prosperity and peace in Eurasia.

This year, the fourth meeting was held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, from September 23 to 24, 2019. The conference was themed “Greater Eurasia: Dialogue. Trust. Partnership.”

At the end of the discussion, delegations from 65 countries and 14 international institutions/assemblies adopted a joint statement, whose provisions are summarized below.

The participants began the statement by expressing their common will to promote Eurasia as a single space of peace, cooperation, and interaction, stressing the crucial roles of legislative authorities and inter-parliamentary cooperation in regional integration and the establishment of a comprehensive partnership.

Article 10 mentioned the situation in the Korean Peninsula, where complete denuclearization is encouraged for the establishment of a lasting peace regime. Delegates added their hope to resolve the issue through dialogue.

Also, the statement called for collaborative efforts in combating terrorism and protecting cybersecurity, along with the development of cultural and humanitarian ties for peoples in Eurasia. Positive outcomes of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) were noted as well.

Participants went on to express their gratitude to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan for successfully hosting the event.

Other topics of the agenda included digitalization, the refugee situation in Eurasia, disarmament, adherence to the UN Charter principles, harmonization of geo-economic interests, and the use of forums such as Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in increasing multilateral talks.

Members of the fourth meeting finished the statement by agreeing to hold the fifth meeting in the Republic of Indonesia in 2020.
