On October 19th, the delegation of Italy led by President of the Senate of the Italian Republic Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati met Speaker of Milli Majilis, the Azerbaijani National Assembly Ogtay Asadov.
During the visit, Alberti Casellati noted that her visit will further develop interparliamentary relations between the two countries. Casellati said that Italy particularly values Azerbaijan’s parliamentary traditions.
The president of the Italian Senate pointed out the cultural ties between the two states and praised the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Italy, which is a non-profit organization headed by First Lady of Azerbaijan Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
In response, Azerbaijani Speaker Asadov expressed confidence that the Italian Senate president’s first official visit to Azerbaijan will contribute to the development of bilateral ties between the two nations.
Speaker Asadov described Italy as Azerbaijan’s largest trade partner and as the country’s one of the most important partners in the world. The two countries are cooperating in works such as the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and the Southern Gas Corridor projects.
