At the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe held in Strasbourg from October 24 to 25, Speakers of Parliament from 47 countries on the Eurasian continent gathered to share ideas on common challenges and parliamentary diplomacy in international relations.

When addressing the session titled “Our common European home: the next 70 years,” President Tsereteli of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA)  put an emphasis on improving international partnership and expanding the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the current geopolitical context.

President Tsereteli said: “If we look at the 70 years ahead of us, the picture will not be bright if we do not resolve the conflicts affecting our region and neighborhood, where, first and foremost, our people are suffering and losing hope,”

“As elected representatives, we carry the additional responsibility of restoring the confidence of our citizens towards politics,” added the President.

Besides speeches, there were also meetings on the sidelines. President Tsereteli and Secretary General Montella of OSCE PA met with Speakers of Parliament from countries such as but not limited to: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Spain, Turkey, and Ukraine. The OSCE PA delegation also met with Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) President Gabriela Cuevas Barron, keeping up with the talks they had during the 141st IPU Assembly.
