On December 19, 2019, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven visited the Republic of Korea’s National Assembly to meet with Speaker Moon Hee-sang and deliver a speech on bilateral relations.

 

During his speech, Prime Minister Lofven mentioned the critical role of the Republic of Korea in inspiring others, as the Republic of Korea has transformed itself from a war-torn country into one of the most developed democracies and economies in the world.

 

In turn, Speaker Moon expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Lofven for the role Sweden has played in achieving peace in the Korean Peninsula. Speaker Moon further called for more cooperation in education, economy, and technology, while noting the fact that Sweden is one of the top-ranked countries for happiness and national competitiveness.

 

Also, the two sides expressed their hope to strengthen cooperation to contribute to peace and prosperity around the world. Several government officials, ambassadors, and parliamentarians from both sides accompanied the two leaders to the meeting.

PHOTO: Naon.go.kr. Speaker of National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia meets with Speaker of National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

 

 

On December 18, 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

 

During the meeting of Speaker Maja Gojkovic of Serbia and Speaker Moon Hee-sang of the Republic of Korea, the two leaders shared views on common interests such as parliamentary diplomacy and international conferences.

 

At the beginning of the talks, Speaker Moon said: “Since this is the first visit of Speaker Gojkovic to the Republic of Korea, I hope to discuss progress in parliamentary cooperation and bilateral relations…Moreover, as Serbia has applied for E.U. membership, it has huge growth potential. Thus, ideas of bilateral cooperation are promising.”

 

When reiterating joint efforts in education, cultural, and ICT sectors, Speaker Moon also expressed his gratitude to Speaker Gojkovic for Serbia’s efforts in supporting the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. In turn, Speaker Gojkovic thanked Speaker Moon for accepting her invitation to the 141st Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, while showing her hope that a lasting peace regime in the Korean Peninsula could be achieved through dialogue.

 

The two sides also talked about inter-parliamentary activities, while several government officials, ambassadors, and parliamentarians from both sides accompanied the two leaders to the meeting.
