On October 29th, the Indonesian delegation, on their official visit to Korea to discuss defense industry cooperation, paid a visit to Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Moon Hee-sang.
Led by Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representative Commission I Abdul Kharis Almasyari, the Indonesian delegation included Deputy Chairman of Commission I Asril Hamzah Tanjung and other MPs.
The ROK delegation included Speaker of the ROK National Assembly Moon Hee-sang, Chairman of the National Assembly’s National Defense Committee Ahn Gyu-back, Yoo Ki-june Chairman of the ROK-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendly Group and others.
Speaker Moon expressed regrets over crash of the Lion Air jet in the waters near Jakarta, after the nation suffered greatly due to earthquakes and tsunami in September.
Speaker Moon said that Indonesia is one of the main partners in the administration’s pursuit to strengthen cooperation among ASEAN countries.
The ROK Speaker expressed hope that the two countries could deepen their relationships with the Indonesian delegation’s visit following Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s visit last.
In response, Chairman Abdul Kharis Almasyari thanked Speaker Moon and Koreans for showing deep interests and expressing sympathy for Indonesia. The Indonesian Speaker also said that he hopes the bilateral relationship between the two countries would develop in areas beyond military defense.
The Indonesian delegation added in particular that Korea be open to fields such as the country’s tourism, infrastructure, and trade.
