On December 3rd, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Binali Yildrim met Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee Li Zhanshu.
The meeting was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
During the Monday’s meeting, the Turkish speaker said that parliamentary diplomacy will be more effective by developing not only the relations between the two governments, but also that of the two countries’ parliaments.
Speaker Yildrim stressed the historical relations between the two countries by saying that Turkey and China share “similar ideas on regional and global issues”.
In response, Chairman Li said that Turkey plays an important role in international and regional issues. Li added that “Turkey is an important and developing country and an emerging economy”.
Chairman Li said that China supports Turkey’s efforts to preserve “its country’s national security, stability and legitimate right”.
The Chinese chairman said that China is ready to enhance cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefits.
Turkish speaker expressed the hope that parliamentary friendship groups of Turkey and China would begin communication for future development. He also recalled that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chinese President Xi Jinping made the decision to strengthen bilateral relations during the meeting at the G20 summit in Argentina.
Earlier, the two presidents pointed out that both China and Turkey are emerging market economies. Xi urged the two countries to strengthen cooperation, share development opportunities and meet challenges and risks together.
President Xi said that close communication with the Turkish president enabled strategic cooperation and called the relevant departments of the two countries to cooperate for tangible results.
