[May 7] A Video-Conference of the Ministers of Economy and Trade and Heads of Customs Administrations of Turkic Council’s Member and Observer States

On May 6, the Ministers of Economy and Trade and Heads of Customs Administrations of the Turkic Council Member and Observer States convened a video-conference to discuss how to mitigate negative impacts from COVID-19 and methods to maintain and strengthen economic and trade relations during and after the pandemic.
The meeting was moderated by Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the participants included Baghdad Amreyev, Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Sardor Umurzakov, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, Ruslan Dalenov, Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, Kairat Torebayev, the Vice-Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Sanzhar Mukanbetov, Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan, Ruhsar Pekcan, Minister of Trade of Turkey, and Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, as well as Heads of Customs Administrations of the Members States.
During the meeting, the Ministers shared their economic challenges caused by COVID-19 and the measures taken to counteract the negative impacts. They agreed on the necessity of multilateral efforts and came together to establish a joint Action Plan under the coordination of the Turkic Council Secretariat with the relevant authorities of the Member and Observer States responsible for economy, trade and customs issues. Further discussions included food security, essential goods and accelerating customs clearance procedures of these essential goods, humanitarian aid, and reducing import taxes.
Meanwhile, Turkic Council has already held video-conferences twice, with Ministers of Health on April 28, and with Ministers of Transport on April 30. The Council is holding video-conferences upon the decision of the Heads of State, taken at the Extraordinary Video Summit of the Turkic Council, which was convened on 10 April under the theme of “Solidarity and Cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.”
