On this day in 1986, U.S. President Ronald Reagan and USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev meet in Reykjavík, Iceland, in an effort to discuss reducing missile arsenals in Europe. The progress made at the Reykjavík summit ultimately results in the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty between the two countries.
